A special example is Louisville, Kentucky in USA. today there are still living there numerous descendants of people who since the 19th century emigrated from Einsiedeln. Susann Bosshard-Kälin has devoted to them the book Einsiedeln elsewhere. Presence of a Village of Central Switzerland in the American City of Louisville. Economic or political concerns had motivated the emigrants and a whole community of Einsiedeln people emerged in Louisville. They were successful in farming, especially in milk production and a legend has it that the cheeseburger had been invented by one of the Einsiedeln immigrants.
Today remembrances of Einsiedeln are only fragmentary and the image of Switzerland is somewhat idealized, Susann Bosshard-Kälin explained on Swiss Radio Bern.
