Thanks also to the Mayor of Einsiedeln, Franz Pirker, and his usher Bruno Kälin, the travelers were not only able to visit tourist destinations like New Glarus and Tell City but also enjoyed official receptions at the St. Meinrad Archabbey in Indiana, and at early August 1 celebrations in Louisville. They even appeared on TV.
Almost all of the filming for the video series "Cheese and music, here and there" by Claudia Steiner was carried out during this EAE visit.
The concept was based on investigating the cultural and economic exchange between Einsiedeln and Louisville today, focusing on the following questions:
- Where and how can the Einsiedeln pass be felt in today’s Louisville?
- How do the émigrés’ descendants deal with their history back in the canton of Schwyz?
- How important is it to maintain traditional values in a globalized world?
The trip was full of fascinating, sometimes very unexpected, but always highly educational encounters with wonderful people connected with Einsiedeln and its legacy in Louisville.
History of this video series from Claudia Steiner:
Susann Bosshard-Kälin launched the multimedia project entitled EINSIEDELN ELSEWHERE in 2015. During two trips to the USA, Susann and her young team investigated the reasons why these people left, and how they experienced their new homeland. The project has continued to evolve ever since, and the 39-minute film "Tracing identity?" by Claudia Steiner premièred in July 2018. Part 1 of a film concept in the cross-media project focused on Switzerland, and on the subject of genealogy in particular. Part 2 - the video series "Cheese and music, here and there" - was premiered in November 2019 and is since that time online.
