It became apparent that the bonds between the relatives in the USA and the Oechslins and their children have been close for many years. There are letters and photographs from various visits, both here and there. Years ago, Matthias’s cousin Judy started to establish contact with the relatives of her father Emil Kaelin. Anita recounts how it was originally difficult to communicate, as neither of the parties could speak the language of the other on the opposite side of the ocean. By now letters are being exchanged on a regular basis, and in the worst case "hands and feet" can always be used to communicate.
